Style over Substance

In the Music business, media portrays men and women, specifically in the pop genre, as sex gods and goddesses. The artists may have to sacrifice common ethics and values to expose themselves in a way for them to be worshipped for not only their music but their sexuality. Midriff tops, writhing around naked in a sauna, and softcore porn music videos are just a few of the attention grabbing tactics.

They may be losing some of themselves, and may be ridiculously good looking, but some of these musicians can not even sing! I am talking about the issue of lip-syncing. Is this ethical? When fans pay up to hundreds of dollars to view their favorite artists live, and it is in fact NOT EVEN LIVE!

How do these people get a record contract when they have no vocal talent? Do they sleep their way to the top? Do they have this amazing stage presence that is only brought down by their poor vocals? Only a slim percentage of the music industry does lipsynch, but the ones that have been caught (Britney, Madonna) are the biggest artists in the world.

However, there are reasons why these artists can argue that lipsynching may be allowed. Having an intense dance choreography, or lots of smoke in their show can be debatable. Or coming into the show upside down makes it harder to sing but this can all be altered. An artist can tone down the choreography and just have dancers around them, there can be little or no smoke and make such an extravagant entrance may not be required. These things can be toned down for the sake of the artists' genuinity.

Here is an example of a good old lip-sync. Back when Lindsay Lohan attempted a singing career, she got caught lip-syncing her first single. She was able to make another album somehow but it must have not been for her vocal talent.
